Sons of Pitches FC to Host Third Rooftop Soccer Tournament
Atlanta, Georgia — October 20, 2016 — Sons of Pitches FC (SOPFC) will continue innovating and inspiring Atlanta with their third Rooftop Soccer Tournament as part of their larger initiative to transform highly-accessible but underused space into active space necessary for urban residents and workers to maintain healthy lifestyles.
Join SOPFC and over 1,000 attendees from Friday, Nov 4 to Sunday, Nov 6 in the heart of Midtown at the Centergy Parking Deck located adjacent to Square on Fifth (SQ5), Centergy, and the Tech Square Research Building.
Portable Dragon Goal turf soccer arenas with top netting will be set up on the rooftop of the 8‑story Centergy Parking Deck building.
Last year’s Fall Rooftop Tournament in Downtown Atlanta featured 56 teams and over 1,000 participants and spectators. This year is expected to be bigger than ever, thanks to new relationships with key community leaders, including TechSquareATL.com and Sandbox ATL.
Both Rooftop Tournaments sold out quickly last year, so interested players are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to participate in one of Atlanta’s most innovative annual events. Regular pricing ends Thursday, Oct 27, and the final registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov 2. Each player registration includes a 2016 Rooftop Tournament t‑shirt.
In accordance with SOPFC’s mission to transform public spaces, founder Christopher Wedge will speak on a panel alongside City of Atlanta Urban Agriculture Director Mario Cambardella at the Center for Civic Innovation in late November about the success of the Rooftop Tournament in a wide-ranging discussion about green roofs and activating public spaces.
